Preliminary Task- Contents Page Final Draft

Preliminary Task- Contents Page Second Draft

Contents Page- First Draft

Preliminary Task- Sketch 3.

Reasons for Sketches.

The reason why I chose Sketch 3 as my final contents page design were for several reasons:

  • I felt that my "Contents" title will appeal to my niche market of schoolchildren, as it has a "cartoon" effect of which most 11-16 year old's can relate to. The different colours also chosen makes the contents page more interesting and will have more appeal to the younger audiences to read. The title is also quite effective as each letter is highlighted in black font which will make the title bolder on the page and more attractive to the eye.
  •  I feel that the choice of side images were effective for balancing out both the text and the pictures, as the magazine is supposed to provide a form of escapism. The images intise the consumers to read through the pages as they know what to expect when they read it. Additionally, as my niche market is of schoolchildren and adults so they want something new and different to read. I feel that sketch 3 is the best choice to do this.
  •  I feel that the colour choices of my magazine are appropriate for the audience. As my magazine is aimed at a younger audience, I made sure sketch 3 was bold and would stand out to the eye.

Preliminary Task- Reasons for sketches.

Reasons for choosing a magazine sketch.
The sketch I chose to develop into my magazine was draft number 2. Although I will change the design process throughout creating my front page, the sketched design will look similar to the drafts of my magazine. The reason why I chose sketch 2 was because I felt that it met the needs of both female and male niche audiences, and had all the language conventions needed to be on my school magazine, for example 'It's study week!' attracts the consumers into picking up my magazine and reading it as the front page has a central headline. This draft was also the most appropriate because of the colour scheme, as the browns and purples incorporates the male audience, and the pink and the light blue attracts a female audience. The use of greens and yellows would also make the magazine stand out on the shelf and persuade people to read it. Another reason why I chose sketch 2 was because of the magazine name title. I felt that choosing 'The Enformer' was the best name choice if the magazine was to be published into shops as I feel the name choice is concise, professional and well suited to the theme of a school magazine. I also felt that this sketch was appropriate with the choice of images used as they will be used in the final drafts of my magazine. Additionally, the choice of tagline is suitable for my magazine as it incorporates the 'school like' feel of the page and would possibly attract a wider niche audience to my magazine for example education boards etc.
